As a student teacher I would say I am definitely around Level 1 on the LoTi continuum. I use technology for my own purposes of email, research, spreadsheets, etc, yet I have not incorporated it into my student teaching assignment. My master teacher has a daily computer schedule which involves students practicing with the Paint program, word processing and kid pix. I have not yet become involved in their computer lessons.
As an observer, I would say most teachers I have seen are a Level 0. In two classrooms I observed in the computers were never turned on in my presence. In one classroom, students were allowed to use the computer in Paint or Microsoft Word before school started or during indoor recess.
As a student, I would say I probably reached about a Level 2 in high school. I was in a very cool class called EAST lab (Environmental and Spatial Technology). This class allowed students to be anywhere on the LoTi continuum from Level 1 to a Level 6. Some of my classmates used GPS to map a local marine preserve called Kealia Pond. It was a intense project. To be honest, I'm not even sure what they did with all their work. Personally, I experimented with creating Flash movies and working with Adobe Photoshop. I eventually used Photoshop to create materials for a Tutoring project through my school. I also worked with a lot of PowerPoints. Today as a graduate student, I find myself less involved with technology than ever before. Of course this class is forcing change upon me, but I welcome it!
