My Concept Map

posted Monday, 21 April 2008

I enjoyed using the Inspiration program to create my concept map.  I would say that my only problem was choosing from all of the different possible options!  I think kids would also like this program a lot.  The concept maps it creates look professional and attractive.  Click the link below to see my concept map!

Hi Kate,

  • I loved seeing your approach to the assignment and reading your reflection on your process. I really liked the way you color coordinated the different sections, and fleshed out key aspect and explained how you accomplish them. We certainly have similarities and I enjoyed learning from you!

Kate, I also loved the color coordination. It made finding the information very easy. You really have a way of articulating your thoughts in a way that is easy to understand and clearly well thought out. Well done!

Hey Kate, I like that you used sentences in your concept map, because it allowed you to flesh out your ideas a little more, and I'm such a verbal person (really??) that it made it more accessible for me as a reader. Also, as in Jessamyn's concept map, you referred to the ways in which you want your peers to see you, which I think is important because it affects your professional persona and the attitude you bring into the classroom. I'm still not sure about how I want to be "seen" as a teacher, and I think it's something I should devote some time to, as you clearly have. And the "long term" vision you depict in the "Will my efforts result in change?" was both hopeful and realistic. I have a hard time as a teacher because I see how quickly the tides change with children and their attitudes about learning. It really affects my motivation, and I often wonder if the things I'm doing in the classroom are helping to promote higher order thinking and a desire for lifelong learning and inquiry. I, too, hope that my efforts will be rewarded, even if I am never in the place to see that happen directly.

Kate,

I thought your concept map really answered the overarching statement of "goals and motivations for being a teacher". I love that while I read your supporting statements I can tell that you are becoming a teacher for the students and the world needs more teachers like that.

I also thought that your organization strategy by color coding each section was subtle but extremely helpful. Overall it was great.

Kate,

I really like your concept map. Like many of our classmates you did you map on your goals. I always think that it is great to talk about ourselves. The concept map is a great opportunity to make connections. I feel that you maps paints a picture of your goal and personal interests. I think you should print it and put it inside your portfolio.
